BARCELONA SUFFER FURTHER INJURY BLOW

Spanish giants Barcelona have dealt with injuries throughout this season and they were dealt an additional blow on that end with the news that young midfielder Pedri won’t feature for the Catalans again this year. According to popular Spanish newspapers AS, new Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has made the decision to start his recovery from a thigh injury from the scratch and this means thatPedriwon’t be able to feature for his team until after the winter break.

Pedri was an ever-present for both club (Barcelona) and country (Spain) last season as he enjoyed a breakthrough campaign. The Spanish international played a total of 73 games for the two teams last season including six games at the Euro 2020 tournament where he was named the best young player.

In contrast to last season, Pedri has been restricted to just four appearances in the colours of Barcelona this season due to a troublesome thigh injury. The injury forced him to miss the UEFA Nations League finals in Italy last month. Despite being injured for the majority of this season, Pedri was named the Golden Boy Award winner this week ahead of Borussia Dortmund midfielder and England international Jude Bellingham.

Pedri has been left frustrated with his thigh injury as he has not been able to help his team achieve their targets from the start of the season till date.

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez became the manager this month and one of his first acts was to mastermind the appointment of Carlos Nogueira as the head of physiotherapy. Xavi would be hoping that a new medical head would slow down the injury setbacks that have threatened to derail the Catalan giants and their targets this season.

The new medical team will start the recovery process for Pedri from the scratch in the bid to get him fit and firing on all cylinders by the start of next year.
